Cuban reforms during the last 5 years has made it possible for cubans to open their own small business. In just a few years the private industry counts with around 580 000 private business owners, so called “cuenta propistas”. The licenses includes a variety of different professions; from hairdressers, taxi drivers, private bed & bed breakfast owners, cafeterias and restaurants to shoe polishers and small stands selling vegetables and icecream in the streets.
